The sounds of laughter, fiddle, and a well-strummed guitar greet you as you walk past the the open door of the village pub...

You think, “well, maybe I should pop in just for a minute to check it out…” And, wouldn’t you know it, after another Guinness, you’re singing right along as the band moves seamlessly from traditional Irish music to Neil Diamond!

The newest addition to the Parallel catalog offers experiences like this, along with many more moments where the only sounds you’ll hear are the bleats of newborn lambs and cuckoos calling out across quiet valleys. We have designed this five-night itinerary across Ireland’s iconic Kerry and Dingle peninsulas in the country’s glorious southwest to make the most of the area’s stunning natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.

We’ll meet in the bustling town of Killarney, where they have been welcoming travelers to the area for hundreds of years. After a welcome dinner and a pint or two at one of the many pubs in town, we’ll rest up before starting our hike to the sea through Killarney National Park.

Crossing rushing streams over ancient moss-encrusted bridges, walking shaded paths through tall oak forests, and marveling at the majesty of the Macgillicuddy’s Reeks, the highest mountains in Ireland, you will make your way from the busy streets of Killarney into the quiet beauty of Black Valley and Glencar. The days are simple as you walk the famous Kerry Way, enjoy friendly accommodations and home-cooked meals along the way.

Arriving at the sea in Glenbeigh, we’ll transit around the head of the bay to the small village of Annascaul and our last day of hiking, this time along the Dingle Way to Dingle town and its incredible music scene. On our last night together, you’re likely to laugh and sing your way through the evening before transiting back to Killarney and Dublin beyond.

WHAT WE’LL TAKE CARE OF

• ACCOMMODATIONS AND LUGGAGE TRANSFERS

We will transfer your luggage from inn to inn so that you don’t have to worry about getting that wheeled suitcase up the hill. We will stay in small guesthouses and B&Bs each night, While typical of many European hotels in offering smaller rooms than you might find in the U.S., each of the hotels we’ve chosen has clean, well-run facilities, and a full Irish breakfast. Each location has good wifi available

• MEALS AND GROUP ACTIVITIES

We have included four evening meals as a group. The first is our welcome dinner in Killarney where we will enjoy a pint of Guinness and a meal at one of the many well-established taverns. We’ll share meals in the Black Valley and Glencar, as well, where our accommodations are the sole nearby options. And we will celebrate our time together with a great meal out in Dingle, where we will conclude our itinerary.

We will also provide your transfer back to Killarney at the end of the trip where you can continue your travels or return to Dublin to fly home. Additionally, we will provide a professional facilitator, detailed maps, and a daily briefing on what you can expect from the day to come. We will provide you with pre-trip packing lists along with a recommended training schedule, as well.

WHAT’S UP TO YOU

At Parallel, we value the community that we build within a group, but we equally value your independence. As such, we’ve designed our trips to give you ample opportunity to explore on your own, or with your fellow travelers. During our days of hiking, you are welcome to complete the day’s itinerary at your own pace – whether that means hiking with others in the group or not is up to you.

When it comes to lunch on the trail, we’ve learned that everyone picnics differently – and as such, you’ll have the opportunity to provision for lunch from local shops. We will provide you with a Parallel Picnic Kit that includes a knife, cutting board, spreaders, and other picnicking essentials.

You’ll need airfare to and from Ireland – if coming from the US, we recommend you fly in and out of Dublin as there are non-stop flights from many American cities and train service to Killarney is frequent and easy.  Regardless of where you are coming from or headed to, we’re very happy to assist you with your travel plans.
