With the worldwide heat waves, we’ve been dreaming up ways to stay cool and refreshed this summer. One of our beloved groups who traveled to Spain’s Costa Brava in May came up with a new verb:
Aperoling
/APP-uh-roh-ling/
verb · informal
Definition: The leisurely and celebratory act of drinking an Aperol Spritz—typically at sunset—after completing a rewarding outdoor adventure, such as a hike or day on the trail; often accompanied by a sense of accomplishment and scenic views.
Example: “After hiking to a Spanish Monastery, we spent the evening aperoling by the castle with the sun sinking behind the mountains.”
Which could also be a noun:
Aperoler
/APP-uh-roh-ler/
noun · informal
Definition: A person who partakes in the ritual of enjoying an Aperol Spritz at sunset, particularly after a fulfilling outdoor adventure; someone who values scenic views, good company, and refreshing rewards.
Example: “The trailhead was empty, but we found a hidden overlook where a group of seasoned aperolers had set up camp with chilled glasses and laughter.”
Now that it’s 5 o’clock somewhere – here are our favorite Parallel Adventures Aperol Spritzes, also known as “Aperollel Worlds”
Classic Aperollel Worlds

Guerilla-Style Aperol Spritz
This recipe was inspired by one group’s final evening in Portugal this spring where drinks by the old windmill during the sunset were not to be missed, even if we didn’t have ice or much in the way of glassware! For mountaintop mixologists and ice-free adventurers.
Serves: 1
Glassware: Whatever you’ve got—mug, jar, ceramic bowl from the guesthouse’s kitchen
Ingredients
- 3 parts (90 ml / 3 oz) Prosecco
- 2 parts (60 ml / 2 oz) Aperol
- 1 part (30 ml / 1 oz) soda water (optional)
- Optional: chilled vessel, orange peel from a crushed backpack snack, mountain breeze
Method
- Combine ingredients directly in your chosen vessel.
- Skip the ice—you’ve earned that ambient chill. Besides, you couldn’t find any.
- Swirl with elegance (or a trekking spoon).
- Toast your dusty hiking shoes, your view, and your impeccable taste.
